Photo Facebook

Pune: Recently, a photo went viral on social media, in which a young man was seen lying on the ground outside the Pune office of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). It was claimed that he is an employee of TCS and he does not have enough money to take a place to stay, that is why he is sleeping outside the office. This photo went viral on the internet and serious questions started being raised on the work culture of the company.

However, now TCS has broken its silence on this whole matter and issued a statement and clarified the facts.

What is the matter of the viral photo?

This incident started with a Twitter (now X) post, in which a user claimed that the young man is a TCS employee, who recently came to Pune on a project. But he was not given any kind of accommodation or allowance by the company, due to which he was forced to sleep on the footpath outside the office.

The post read:

“A TCS fresher was called to join duty in Pune, but there is no arrangement for accommodation. There is not enough money in the pocket to buy a PG. I am forced to sleep outside the office.”

As soon as this post went viral, there was an uproar on social media and people started criticizing the company's policies.

TCS's official statement

Now TCS has come forward and clarified the situation in this matter. The company said:

"We are investigating the viral photo. As per the information so far, it is not clear whether the person seen in the photo is actually our employee or not. We provide necessary facilities to all our employees and transfer and housing assistance is also provided for new appointments."

The company further said that if this person is actually its employee, he will be helped by the concerned department. Also, it was told that an internal investigation has been started to find out the identity of the employee and the reality behind the photo.

Questions raised on freshers and onboarding conditions

As soon as this matter came to light, questions have been raised on TCS's fresher hiring process and onboarding policies. Many users wrote in the comments that companies make big promises at the time of campus placement, but when it comes to actual joining and support, freshers have to struggle.

One user wrote:

"Even in big name companies, freshers have to live in such a condition. This is very shameful."

People divided into two groups on social media

While on the one hand people are criticizing the company, on the other hand some users say that it is wrong to question an organization just by looking at a photo. Some also said that this picture may have been shared for some wrong purpose or the youth is not an employee of TCS at all.

Another side says that if the youth is really an employee of the company, then he should have directly contacted the HR department or manager, instead of making the photo viral on social media.

Changing challenges of employees in the IT industry

This incident has once again highlighted the challenges faced by entry-level employees in the IT industry. After the pandemic, many companies have ended the work from home policy and employees are being called back to the office. But for those freshers who come from other cities, housing arrangements have become a serious problem.

Especially the youth whose joining date is given very soon, they have to survive in the new city without preparation. In such a situation, there is neither knowledge of PG nor adequate financial resources.

Impact on TCS image

TCS is considered a reputed and trusted company, which has been employing millions of people across the world including India for years. But this one picture and the claims associated with it have affected the credibility of the brand.

Experts believe that the company should maintain transparency in such matters and identify the problems of the employees in advance and provide solutions. There is a dire need for a guided onboarding system and helpline, especially for freshers.

Lessons for the youth

This incident has once again given the message to the youth that just getting a job is not enough, but it is also important to understand financial preparation, housing information and company support policies before coming to a new city.

Students who are selected in campus placements should get clear information from the company about facilities like letter of assistance, housing support, or stipend before joining.

Picture, many questions

A viral picture has put one of the country's largest IT companies in the dock. Whether the picture is real or misleading—it has highlighted an important issue: the fulfillment of the basic needs of new employees and the accountability of companies.

Big brands like TCS should stay ahead not only in technological development but also in the human side. Because a strong and balanced work culture is possible only when every employee gets respect, convenience and support.
