Heavy Rainfall and Alerts Issued by IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Delhi on Thursday, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall. Following a night of significant rainfall on Wednesday, Delhi residents have been advised to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. The IMD warns against visiting areas prone to waterlogging, urging caution amid the adverse weather conditions.

Ongoing Weather Conditions in Delhi and NCR

A red alert was in effect until 8:30 am today, transitioning to an orange alert for the next 24 hours. The IMD forecasts moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning across North Delhi, Central Delhi, New Delhi, South Delhi, South-East Delhi, East Delhi, and the NCR. Rainy conditions are expected to persist until August 5, affecting both Delhi and surrounding NCR areas.

Tragic Incident in Ghazipur

In a tragic incident in East Delhi's Ghazipur area, a woman and her child drowned after falling into a waterlogged drain. In the tragic incident, two lives were lost, including Tanuja, a 22-year-old young woman, and her innocent 3-year-old son Priyansh, who resided in the Prakash Nagar Khoda Colony in Ghaziabad, leaving their loved ones devastated by the loss.

Details of the Incident

The police received a distress call at approximately 8:12 pm on Wednesday evening, reporting the drowning. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities found that Tanuja and Priyansh had fallen into a semi-constructed waterlogged drain while on their way to the weekly Budh Bazaar. Despite immediate response efforts, both were unable to be saved.

This incident underscores the severe impact of the heavy rains and the importance of adhering to safety advisories during such extreme weather conditions.
