Yuvraj Singh’s Recognition and Scholarship Offer
Yuvraj Singh, who is known for nurturing young talent through his Centres of Excellence, took note of Rishika's potential. He announced that he will finance her education and cricket training at the Merlin Rise Yuvraj Singh Centre of Excellence in Kolkata.
The Viral Video
Rishika’s talent came to light when a video of her playing cricket with her father in the Newtown area of Kolkata went viral. The video showcased her remarkable batting technique, comparable to professional players, which left viewers in awe. Her natural talent quickly made her a sensation, earning her the title of a cricket prodigy.
Formal Scholarship Announcement
During the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match in the United States, Yuvraj Singh officially announced the scholarship for Rishika. In a formal ceremony, the young girl was awarded the scholarship, solidifying her path to professional cricket training.

Expressing his admiration for Rishika, Yuvraj Singh said, "The Yuvraj Singh Center of Excellence at Merlin Rise, Kolkata is committed to nurturing young cricketing talent. Cricket talent has always been ahead in Bengal, and we are giving this special scholarship to talent like Rishika Sarkar. I have seen videos of her playing cricket and I believe she is very talented at such a young age. Some of her shots left me flabbergasted. We will assist her in her training at our High-Performance Training Center at YSCE at Merlin Rise, Kolkata, and our coaches will help her hone her talent further."

Indian cricketer and YSCE Head Coach, Satyendra Singh, echoed Yuvraj’s sentiments, stating, "Rishika has a bright future ahead. It was a raw and inborn talent. We hope we can help her and her future is bright."
Special Gift from Yuvraj
In recognition of Rishika’s talent, Yuvraj Singh sent her a signed cricket bat as a gift. Despite living in a poor family in the suburbs of New Town, Rishika’s determination to play cricket remains unshaken. Her father, Rajeev Sarkar, has been training her regularly, and her dedication is evident in her daily six-hour practice sessions.
Comprehensive Support for Rishika
Rishika will receive coaching three days a week at the Yuvraj Singh Centre of Excellence, with coaches closely monitoring her progress. Additionally, Merlin Rise and Club Pavilion, The Sports Club at Merlin Rise, will provide nutritious meals according to her diet plan. The YSCE will also regularly assess her performance and provide opportunities for her to participate in future matches. The Merlin Group has committed to finding a nearby school for Rishika and will cover all expenses for her further education.
