In a thrilling contest at Harare, India triumphed over Zimbabwe by 23 runs in the third T20I of the 5-match series. Chasing a target of 183 runs set by India, Zimbabwe managed to score 159/6 in their 20 overs.
India's win was largely due to their strong batting performance, with contributions from multiple players. Shubman Gill, captaining the side, won the toss and opted to bat first. He led from the front, scoring his first T20I half-century as skipper with a swift 66 off 36 deliveries. Ruturaj Gaikwad supported him well, narrowly missing his half-century with a commendable 49 off 28 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal, making his series debut, added a solid 36 off 27 balls. India posted a competitive total of 182/4 in their 20 overs.
Zimbabwe's bowlers, Blessing Muzarabani and Sikandar Raza, each claimed two wickets, but they couldn't prevent India from setting a formidable target.
In response, Zimbabwe's innings was anchored by Dion Myers, who remained unbeaten with an impressive 65 off 49 balls. Clive Madande also made a notable contribution with 37 off 26 balls. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to withstand India's bowling attack.
Washington Sundar was the standout bowler for India, earning the 'Player of the Match' title with his three crucial wickets. Avesh Khan took two wickets, and Khaleel Ahmed chipped in with one.
This victory gives India a 2-1 lead in the series, with two more matches to play. The fourth T20I is scheduled for Saturday, 13 July, followed by the fifth and final match on 14 July. The addition of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Yuzvendra Chahal to the Indian squad has bolstered their lineup, while Zimbabwe will need to improve their batting performance to stay in contention.
