Former US President Donald Trump was swiftly escorted off stage by Secret Service agents on Saturday after loud bangs, resembling gunfire, were heard during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, according to AFP. Blood was visible on his right ear as he was surrounded by security personnel.

The Secret Service issued a statement affirming Trump’s safety. “The former President is safe. The Secret Service has implemented protective measures, and this is now an active investigation,” said Anthony Guglielmi, Secret Service communications chief, on X.

Trump's campaign also assured the public of his well-being. “President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act,” stated campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung. “He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow.”

The incident occurred while Trump was presenting a chart of border crossing numbers at the rally in Butler city. As loud bangs echoed from the crowd, Trump was seen reaching toward his neck, and blood appeared on his face. He quickly ducked behind the riser as agents rushed to his aid, with the sounds of bangs continuing.

Amid the chaos, the crowd of several thousand people was filled with screams. Trump's motorcade promptly left the venue after the incident.

The White House confirmed that President Joe Biden had been briefed on the situation. Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., posted a photo on X showing Trump with a bloody face and his fist raised in front of an American flag, captioned: “He’ll never stop fighting to Save America.”

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, also shared a video of the incident on X, expressing his support for Trump and wishing for his rapid recovery.
