The Election Commission of India (ECI) today revealed comprehensive information for all five completed rounds of the 2018 general elections, Improved Voter Turnout App: Direct access to aggregate phase-wise turnout estimates is now available, which were previously discernible through constituency-level data.

Proactive Data Release: Candidates have already access to constituency-level voter data, which is now being made available to the general public.

Late-Night Updates: Information about voter turnout that was previously accessible on the app is now mirrored and distributed at approximately 11:45 PM on election days.

Post-Repoll Updates: Following the completion of any repolls, a third

press release summarising the final statistics is released for each phase. turnout data.

The information, which also includes the total number of votes cast in each parliamentary constituency, is intended to counteract "mischievous designs" and "false narratives" that the ECI refers to as attempts to sabotage the democratic process.

The ECI underlined the strong and open character of its vote gathering and storage standards, noting the Supreme Court's recent validation of its data release procedures. It was reaffirmed that the total number of votes on Form 17C—which is given to poll workers for each candidate—is unchangeable and verifiable by third parties.

In response to complaints regarding purported hold-ups in the release of turnout data, the ECI emphasised that candidates and the general public could always access almost real-time data via its Voter Turnout App. The app, which has been accessible since the polls opened on April 19, offers hourly updates and the final results by midnight on the day of the poll.

Recognising the public's need for more data transparency, the ECI described actions made to increase accessibility. Among these actions are:

Improved Voter Turnout App: Direct access to aggregate phase-wise turnout estimates is now available, which were previously discernible through constituency-level data.
