Prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to run from Nagpur in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The second list of candidates that the BJP unveiled on Wednesday affirmed this choice. Since 2014, Gadkari—who is now the Minister of Road Transport and Highways—has played a significant role in the Narendra Modi administration.

The Politics of Nitin Gadkari

Former BJP president Nitin Gadkari had a lengthy and illustrious political career. The Minister of Shipping, the Minister of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, the Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, and the Minister of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation are just a few of the significant ministerial roles he has held.

Gadkari is renowned for his attention to infrastructure development and administrative skill. Numerous large-scale initiatives targeted at enhancing the nation's road system have been the hallmark of his time serving as Minister of Road Transport and Highways.

Support for Nitin Gadkari by the Shiv Sena

In a recent development, Uddhav Thackeray, the president of Shiv Sena (UBT), has encouraged Nitin Gadkari to quit the BJP if he feels "insulted". Gadkari has been given the assurance that the Shiv Sena will assist him, and Thackeray has pledged to see to it that he wins the Lok Sabha elections. This declaration coincides with BJP internal dissatisfaction about ticket distribution for the approaching elections reportedly intensifying.

The BJP's Secondary Candidate List

There are 72 names on the BJP's second list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, many of whom are well-known figures. Those listed on the list include Anurag Singh Thakur, Pralhad Joshi, and Piyush Goyal, all of whom are union ministers. Among them are former chief ministers Trivendra Singh Rawat, Basavaraj Bommai, and Manohar Lal Khattar.

Khattar will run from Karnal in the Lok Sabha elections after resigning as Haryana's chief minister. Additionally, the party has put forward Anil Baluni, a member of the Rajya Sabha from Uttarakhand's Garhwal constituency, as its chief spokesperson.

The BJP Has Introduced New Candidates

The BJP has unveiled two new candidates in Delhi for the Lok Sabha elections. Yogendra Chandolia will run from North West Delhi, while Harsh Malhotra will run from East Delhi. Union minister Pralhad Joshi will run in Karnataka from Dharwad, and B Y Raghavendra, the son of B S Yediyurappa, will run from Shimoga.

More than 190 names were on the initial list of candidates the BJP had released for the Lok Sabha elections. The elections for the Lok Sabha in 2024 are expected to take place in April or May.
